History

Brief Timeline

1792: First contact with Europeans

1827: Fort Langley founded, by the Hudson Bay Company

1833: Fort Nisqually established

1845: Settlers from the east began to arrive

1846: Treaty of Washington

1848: Father Pascal Richards established a mission near Olympia

1850: Donation Land Law opened land to settlers

1854: Washington Territory organized

1855: Treaty of Point No Point, Treaty of Point Elliot, and Treaty of Medicine Creek
