History

The town was founded in 1640.

Jurisdictions:

  • Late 15th century: Feudal fief.
  • 1640: Kingdom of Sicily.
  • 1652: Passed to the Lo Faso family.
  • 1666: Became a Duchy under Duke Leonardo Lo Faso.
  • Until 1812: Under the control of the House of Lo Faso.
  • After 1860: Part of Italy.

Major events:

  • Sulfur mining and farming were prevalent after the Italian unification in 1860.
  • Serradifalco was the site of the first bicycle manufacturer in southern Italy, Montante Cicli.  
  • Emigration to the United States in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. [1]
