History
Evidence of habitation during the Neolithic period. During the Bronze Age, Hill forts present were present. Around 15 BC, they were conquered by the Romans. The name Segonzano likely originates from this period (Praedium Secundianum). Some historians suggest a possible Gallic origin.
Jurisdictions:
- Roman Era: Part of the Roman Empire.
- Early Middle Ages: After Roman withdrawal, Christianization of the valley.
- 1216: Fief granted to Rodolfo Scancio by the prince-bishop of Trento.
- 1288: Passed to the Rottenburg family.
- 1375: Corrado of Rottenburg ceded the fief to his cousin Federico di Greifenstein.
- 1386: Returned to another branch of the Rottenburgs (Lords of Caldaro).
- 1424: Officially registered in the name of the Count of Tyrol. Management entrusted to various captains.
- 1500: Paul of Liechtenstein appointed captain.
- 1535: Sold to Giovanni Battista a Prato.
- 1636: The a Prato family awarded the title of barons.
- 1869: Property passed from the nobles to municipalities or private individuals.
