History

The area was inhabited as follows:

  • Legend: Founded in 864 by Filippo Lavorgna, a refugee from the Saracen destruction of Telesia.
  • Historical: Founded by refugees from the Saracen destruction of Telesia in the 9th century.
  • First documented mention: 1151, when Guglielmo I Sanframondo declared ownership.

Jurisdictions:

  • 1151-1460: Fief of the Sanframondo family.
  • 1483-1806: Possession of the Carafa family (until the abolition of feudalism).
  • Until the 19th century: Followed the events of Cerreto Sannita.
  • 1861 onwards: Part of the Province of Benevento.

Major events:

  • 9th century: Founded by refugees fleeing Saracen destruction.
  • 1541: Granting of the Statutes, recognizing the Universitas (municipal administration).
  • 1656: Population decline due to the plague.
  • June 5, 1688: Devastating earthquake, causing significant fatalities and destruction.
  • 1764: Damage from famine.
  • 1805: damage from an earthquake.
  • 1837: damage from cholera.[1]
