History
The area was inhabited as follows:
- Legend: Founded in 864 by Filippo Lavorgna, a refugee from the Saracen destruction of Telesia.
- Historical: Founded by refugees from the Saracen destruction of Telesia in the 9th century.
- First documented mention: 1151, when Guglielmo I Sanframondo declared ownership.
Jurisdictions:
- 1151-1460: Fief of the Sanframondo family.
- 1483-1806: Possession of the Carafa family (until the abolition of feudalism).
- Until the 19th century: Followed the events of Cerreto Sannita.
- 1861 onwards: Part of the Province of Benevento.
Major events:
- 9th century: Founded by refugees fleeing Saracen destruction.
- 1541: Granting of the Statutes, recognizing the Universitas (municipal administration).
- 1656: Population decline due to the plague.
- June 5, 1688: Devastating earthquake, causing significant fatalities and destruction.
- 1764: Damage from famine.
- 1805: damage from an earthquake.
- 1837: damage from cholera.[1]
