History

Settlement began in the late 16th century (after 1500) following the clearing of forests by charcoal burners. Agricultural farms and scattered residences developed.

  • Early 17th Century: Construction of the first church in Marcoi.

  • 19th Century: Economic decline due to struggling agriculture and depleted mines, resulting in significant emigration.
