History[edit | edit source]

Roskilde County is a former county on the island of Zealand in eastern Denmark. As part of the 1793 county reform it was created from the existing Roskilde amt. In 1808 it was annexed to Copenhagen County, and then separated out in 1842. In 1970 the county was recreated by the Communal Reform Act. The county was abolished effective January 1, 2007, when it merged into Region Zealand. Historically, it consisted of the Voldborg, Sømme, Ramsø, and Tune Herreds.
