History

The area was likely uninhabited until the 12th/13th century. Colonization began due to the efforts of the Lords of Telve (Castellalto) and the Prince Bishop of Trento, Friedrich von Wangen. The first mention of people living in Ronchi is in 1254, with a "Pecille de Ronquis."

Jurisdictions:

  • Previously: Under the dominion of the Lords of Telve (Castellalto).
  • Later: Passed to the Counts of Tyrol (1412).

Major events:

  • 12th/13th Century: Colonization of the area by farmers and "Roncadori" (deforesters) from the Feltre and Belluno areas, as well as Germany, leading to the origin of Ronchi.
  • 1254: First mention of inhabitants.
  • 1412: Control passed from the da Carrara to the Counts of Tyrol. Second colonization, this time by Bavarian-Tyrolean "Roncadori" and miners ("Canopi").
  • 1569: Document by Cristoforo Welsperg noting that most inhabitants in the Rundscheinperg area (Roncegno and Ronchi mountains) did not speak Italian.
  • 18th/19th Centuries: Gradual disappearance of the German-speaking community.[1]
