Rochester Genealogical Society

The Rochester Genealogical Society (RGS) was formed in 1938 to advance the cause of genealogical searching in Rochester, Monroe County, New York.

The Church Records Preservation Committee has almost 300,000 pages of scanned and digitized records from various local churches and historians available to search for free. The Church Records Preservation Committee was formed in 2005 for the purpose of assisting churches and their archives with conservation of their non-replaceable records.

The Rochester Churches Indexing Project (RCIP) was begun in 2009 by a group of individual researchers with ties to the Rochester Genealogical Society. It has nearly 250,000 names indexed from local churches.It has had almost 1,500,000 views since its start.

General membership meetings start with a short talk and a short business meeting, followed by a longer presentation. Meeting are held 9 months of the year, and the groups has a Technology Interest Group, DNA Interest Group and a Writers' Group. It holds an annual Genealogy in Bloom event every spring with a national speaker.
