History

The area was known and exploited in Roman times, with Roman country residences. The town's origin as a distinct entity dates to the late 7th century, with Lombard settlements. The village of Poggio Catino developed due to limited building space near Catino. The building process of Poggio Catino was completed before 1093.

Jurisdictions:

  • Initially, Catino and Poggio Catino were under the dominion of the Abbey of Farfa.
  • During the 12th century, they became free municipalities.
  • Medieval period: Controlled by families such as the Counts of Sant'Eustachio, the Orsini, the Savelli, the Vitelli, and the Capizucchi.
  • Under Capizucchi lordship, the fiefdom was elevated to a marquisate by Pope Clement VIII.
  • 1614-1816: Under the Olgiati family.

  • Unification of Italy: Unification of the two villages.
  • 1923 Poggio Catino became part of the province of Rome in Lazio.
