History

The comune of Piancogno was created in 1963. Cogno is cited for the first time in 1286.

  • Piano di Borno (Piamborno) was formerly part of Borno.

Major events:

  • 1168: Inhabitants of Esine tried to stop those of Piamborno from placing palisades across the Oglio river for water intakes.
  • 1518: The Capitanei of Val di Scalve retaliated against a rival family in Piamborno for killing one of their relatives.
  • 1521: A flood from the Oglio river expanded Piano's territory.
  • 1756: Disputes between Piano and Borno led to an unsuccessful attempt at separation.
  • 1916: A makeshift airfield was built in the Prada area.[1]
