History

There is evidence of a rustic villa in the Penna Vecchia area during the Roman Era. The first written sources mentioned Penna during the 12th Century.

Jurisdictions:

  • Roman Era: Roman villae present.
  • Post-Roman Empire: Fortified village developed.
  • 13th Century Onward: Contested between Orsini and Colonna families.
  • 1354: Occupied by Fra' Moriale.
  • 1360: Occupied by the Cappelletti.
  • 1378: Devastated by the Bretons.
  • 15th Century: Devastated by Nicolò Fortebraccio. Briefly under jurisdiction of Amelia, then Perugia. Taken over by Count Everso dell'Anguillara, then by the Church, then the Colonna family.
  • 1492: Under the jurisdiction of Amelia.
  • 1502: Purchased by Gian Corrado Orsini.
  • 1528: Raided by Maramaldo.
  • After 1579: Passed to Vicino Orsini.
  • Early 19th Century: Passed to the Marquises Del Gallo of Roccagiovine.
  • 1816: Part of the Delegation of Spoleto in the Province of Umbria (under French occupation).
  • 1817/1827: Subdivision of the Community of Giove, subject to Amelia.
  • 1833/1858: Municipality united with Amelia, part of the District of Terni in the Delegation of Spoleto, then Province of Spoleto.
  • 1861: Part of the Kingdom of Italy, Province of Umbria.
  • 1882: Part of the Province of Perugia.
  • 1927: Part of the Province of Terni.

  • 1354: Sacked by Fra' Moriale.
  • 1378: Devastated by the Bretons.
