Quick History[edit | edit source]
Peerless is a class 4 mining ghost town, in Carbon County.[1]The area in Spring Canyon was developed for mining in 1916 then sold to the Peerless Coal Company in 1917. The population grew in the 1920's and 1930's to approximately 300. The town declined due to the reduced need for coal at the end of World War I. In 1938 many of the residents relocated to Helper or Spring Glen looking for better living facilities. By 1954 the mine closed and all of the residents left.
