Background

Palestinian immigration in the 19th and 20th centuries occurred in several significant waves, each driven by distinct socio-political and economic factors. The late 19th century marked the beginning of emigration due to economic hardship and political instability under Ottoman rule, with many Palestinians moving to the Americas. This trend continued into the early 20th century, exacerbated by the collapse of the Ottoman Empire and the establishment of the British Mandate in Palestine, prompting further emigration in search of better opportunities.

The most substantial wave followed the 1948 Arab-Israeli War, known as the Nakba, which resulted in the displacement of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians who sought refuge in neighboring Arab countries, Europe, and the Americas. Another major wave occurred after the 1967 Six-Day War, driven by economic reasons and the ongoing conflict, leading many Palestinians to emigrate to escape the instability.
