Nieuw Amstel County, Delaware Genealogy

Originally named for town of Quinamkot. The Dutch renamed it Nieuw Amstel in 1657 after conquering it from the Swedes. Tne English captured the town and renamed it New Castle. The county was also renamed New Castle County (English Castle is a twist on Dutch Amstel - which is Kaastel.)
