National is a class 4 mining ghost town, in Carbon County.[1]

Coal was discovered in the Gordon Creek Canyon in 1908 but mining didn't begin until the Fred Sweet of National Coal Company purchased the mines in the1920.'s [2] The National Coal Company, together with the Gordon Creek Coal Company, built a railroad line from Helper to the mine. The National Coal Company discontinued mining operations in July 1938. After foreclosure, another owner continued mining, but that was short lived and the town was soon abandoned.
