Guide to Morocco ancestry, family history and genealogy: parish registers, transcripts, census records, birth records, marriage records, and death records.
Information[edit | edit source]
Morocco is a country in northwest Africa bordered by Algeria, Spain, and the disputed territory of Western Sahara. It was ruled by independent dynasties for centuries, and more recently was colonized by Spain and France. Morocco regained full independence in 1956.[1] The official languages of Morocco are Modern Standard Arabic and Standard Moroccan Tamazight (Berber), with Moroccan Arabic the most widely-spoken, followed by various Tamazight dialects and French. In some regions, Spanish is also commonly spoken as a second language.[2] Genealogical records for this region are primarily found in Arabic, French, and Spanish.
