History
The territory of Montopoli was inhabited since the Bronze Age. The first citation of the comune is dated February 4, 1055.
Jurisdictions:
- 1923: It passed from the province of Perugia in Umbria, to the province of Rome in Lazio.
- 1927: It became part of the province of Rieti.
Major events:
- 1111: The German emperor Enrico V held Pope Pasquale II prisoner there.
- 1861: The partisans of the Tevere Hunters corps were defeated.
- 1961: A natural bridge was mined during the last conflict and collapsed.[1]
