- The building was erected in 1922, in a neoclassical style, to house the Municipal Market, but was renovated and, in 1978, transformed into the Museum.
The collection brings together oil paintings, a plaster bust of the founder of the city, photos, medals, books and furniture. Its structure is composed of 11 different rooms. Among them, the archeology section stands out, with more than 10000 pieces, such as ceramic pots, which show the rituals and daily lives of indigenous tribes who inhabited the land.

- Built in the nineteenth century the submerged water tanks, formed by two galleries, received water straight from the Cuiabá River and distributed by gravity to the spouts scattered at different points. of the city. - The museum has a permanent exhibition of Archeology and Paleontology and a technical reserve. The paleontological exposition presents fossils of animals of the region, organized chronologically, representing the biological evolution through the geological ages. Fossils such as armadillo (Pampatherium humboldti) and giant sloth (Eremotherium Iaurillardi), dinosaurs (saurópoda), and marine animals from the period that Chapada dos Guimarães was sea. The archaeological exhibition tells our story through man-made artifacts from prehistory to the present day. The exhibition includes instruments of the hunter-gatherer man and the potter man, such as chipped stone spearheads, polished stone axes and ceramic fragments. Also on display are pottery, neo-Brazilian ceramics, coins and other objects found in the Mato Grosso mills.
