History

The town's origins were in a clearing north of the church of San Giovanni (Castèl area), but that original settlement was destroyed. The town was then rebuilt.

Major events:

• Destruction of the original settlement (by landslide or fire).
• Rebuilding of Massimeno.
• 1969: Fire that destroyed some houses and widened the town square.
• 1800-1900: Emigration of knife grinders ("moleti") to other countries.
