County Information

Description

Marion County was created on 13 February 1818 and was named for Francis Marion of South Carolina, general in the American Revolutionary War.[2] Its county seat is Hamilton.[3] It is located in the northwestern area of the state.

History Timeline

The county is named after "The Swamp Fox" Revolutionary War Brigadier General Francis Marion (c1732-1795).[8]
