Llay, Denbighshire, Wales Genealogy
Llay (Welsh: Llai) is a village, community and ecclesiastical parish in the Wrexham, Wales.
Before 1974 the village was in the historic county of Denbighshire and, between 1874 and 1996 in the County of Clwyd. In 1996 it became part of the modern Wrexham.

"LLAY (LLAI), a township in that part of the parish of Gresford which is in the hundred of Bromfield, county of Denbigh; 5 miles (N. by W.) from Wrexham; containing 539 inhabitants. It is situated near the left bank of the river Alyn, and on the border of Flintshire.Offa's Dyke passes between the township and the river." (A Topographical Dictionary of Wales, 1833, Samuel Lewis)
Llay became an ecclesiastical parish on 13 December 1944. It was formed from the whole of the Gresford township of Llay, and parts of the Gresford townships of Llay, Burton, Gresford, and Marford Hoseley.
