Llangollen Rural, Wrexham, Wales Genealogy
Llangollen Rural is a community in the Wrexham in Wales. Created in 1974, it comprises the villages of Trefor, Garth and Froncysyllte. Following the abolition of the county of Clwyd in 1996, Llangollen Rural became part of the newly-formed county of Denbighshire. However, in 1998, following a local referendum, the community was transferred into the neighbouring County Borough of Wrexham.
History[edit | edit source]
The community contains the ancient Llangollen townships of Trefor Isaf, on the northern bank of the River Dee, and Cysyllte on its southern bank. In 1805, the two townships were connected by the Pontcysyllte Aquaduct.
Trefor was a chapelry in the parish of Llangollen and private chapel was built at Trevor Hall in 1742.
St. David's church was built in Froncysyllte in 1871, as a combined school and chapel of ease in the parish of Llangollen. However, the village of Froncysyllte was transferred to the parish of Chirk in 1987.
