This collection consists of an index to selected death records for Atchison (1891-1928),Cherokee (1911-1917) city of Galena, Crawford (1887-1911), Miami (1885-1911), Montgomery (1887-1911), and Osage (1909-1911;1915-1918) counties, Kansas for the years 1811 to 1940.

What Do I Do Next?

I Found the Person I Was Looking For, What Now?

  • Add any new information to your records
  • Use the information to obtain the actual death certificate
  • Use the information to locate funeral home, obituary or cemetery record
  • Use the information to find other records such as birth, christening, marriage, census, land and probate records

I Can’t Find the Person I’m Looking For, What Now?

  • Collect entries for every person who has the same surname. This list can help you identify possible relations that can be verified by records
  • If you cannot locate your ancestor in the locality in which you believe they lived, then try searching records of a nearby locality in an area search
  • Standard spelling of names typically did not exist. Try variations of your ancestor’s name while searching the index or browsing through images
  • Remember that sometimes individuals went by nicknames or alternated between using first and middle names, or even initials
