History

• The valley where Quíbor sits was an area inhabited by the Achagua ethnic group, who developed an irrigation system for those dry and semi-desert lands.
• Quíbor was founded as a town of doctrine where the settler judge and an ecclesiastical authority took part, who were in charge of congregating in a previously selected place, the aborigines who were part of the parcels that were within the territory.
• The foundation of Quíbor took place in the year 1620.
• By 1828 it already had the category of villa.
• In 1987, due to the existing Territorial Division Law, a considerable part of the territory of Jiménez was annexed to the Iribarren municipality.
• The city of Quíbor is the capital of the municipality of Jiménez.
• The municipality of Jiménez has a population of approximately 106,000 people.
