County Information

Description

Jefferson County was created 20 Jan 1827[2] and was named for Thomas Jefferson, third president of the United States, who had died the year before the county's establishment. Its county seat is Monticello. It is located in the northwestern area of the state.[3]

Clerk Circuit Court has marriage records from 1840, divorce records from 1900, Probate and court records from 1850 and land records from 1827.[4] All original records from 1827 and all Probate records from 1838 can be found at the Keystone Genealogical Library within the Jefferson County RJ Bailar Public Library.
