Gyffin, Caernarfonshire, Wales Genealogy
Gyffin, or (more correctly), Y Gyffin, is a small village, and ecclesiastical parish, in the Conwy, Wales.
History
In the 1870s: "GYFFIN, a village and a parish in Conway district, Carnarvon. The village stands on an affluent of the river Conway, ¾ of a mile SW of Conway town and r. station; and is in Cwmryd township. The parish includes also the townships of Bodidda, Gweredros, Llechan, and Merchlyn. Post town, Conway. Acres, 3, 705; of which 150 are water. Real property, £2, 571. Pop., 715. Houses, 143. The property is divided among a few. A battle was fought here, in 880, between Anarawd, Prince of North Wales, and Edward, Duke of Mercia. A Cistertian abbey was founded here by Llewelyn-ap-Jorwerth; and was removed, by Edward I., to Maenan. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Bangor. Value, £115. Patron, the Bishop of Bangor.
