History
The first written evidence of Grignasco dates back to the year 999. The diploma of the emperor Otto III of 7 May 999 mentions the name of Grignasco for the first time.
Jurisdictions:
- From 1441 to 1550, the territories of Grignasco and Ara were part of the Marchesato of Romagnano.
- In the 16th century, the Marquisate was ceded to other feudal lords, and in 1588, it was acquired by Count Giovanni Battista Serbelloni.
- Grignasco belonged to the Duchy of Milan under the rule of the Visconti and Sforza families, then under the Spanish, and at the beginning of the 18th century, it became part of the possessions of the State of Savoy.
Major events:
- In 1467, the Duke of Milan Galeazzo Maria Sforza visited the Ricetto Castle for the Peace of Ghemme, a treaty that ended hostilities between the Duchy of Milan and the Duchy of Savoy.
- During the 15th, 16th, and 17th centuries, the church of Santa Maria delle Grazie in the center of the town and the oratory of San Graziano were built and subsequently expanded.
- In the 18th century, the ancient parish church of Bovagliano was renovated, and the new parish church of the Assunta was built based on a design by Bernardo Antonio Vittone.
- Echoes of the revolutionary wave of the late eighteenth century were also felt in Grignasco, as witnessed by the erection of the Tree of Liberty in Piazza Viotti.
- Important civic works were carried out, such as the construction of the bridge over the Riale torrent (1827), the paving of via Riale (1836), and the arrangement of the premises of the municipal part of the "gésa vègia" (1839).
- In 1855, via Cesare Battisti was built towards San Rocco and Torchio.
- In 1881, the "Circolo Amicizia" was founded, from which the Fanfare and then the Musical Band took off in 1893.
- In 1883 the "Circolo Grignaschese" was born, from which the Società Operaia took off in 1886.
- In 1870 the first centenary of the foundation of the Consorzio dell'Immacolata was celebrated.
- In 1895, the masks of Giùan Baceja and Mariana Curbela appeared.
- Around 1881-1882 the carriage road was built that connects the upper hamlets of Sella, Carola, Bertolotto and Pianaccia.
- The arrival in Grignasco of the Novara-Varallo railway (1884) and the construction of the Filatura lane "Figli di Federico Bozzalla" (1894) marked a transition to an industrial economy.
- In 1927, the autonomous municipality of Ara was re-aggregated to Grignasco.[1]
