What is in This Collection?

This collection contains an index & images of deaths recorded in the state of Georgia, 1928-1943. Original records are arranged chronologically by year and then by certificate numbers.

In 1919, Georgia law required the registration of deaths in the state. Some deaths were recorded for years before 1919. Prior to statewide registration, death records were recorded in some counties beginning in 1875. Though statewide registration was established in 1919, county officials were slow to respond to the law and most did not comply until 1928.

Additional records and/or images may be added to this collection in the future.

How Do I Search This Collection?

Search the Index

  2. Click Search to show possible matches

  2. Go to the Browse Page
  3. Select the Film number to view the images

  • The person may be recorded with an abbreviated or variant form of their name
  • Try searching by surname only
  • Remember that spelling was generally not standardized until the early part of the 20th century
