Finland Court

Back to Finland Page

The court structure in Finland is essentially the same as found in Sweden. Rural areas were divided into districts in the 1400s presided over by a rural judge (Finnish: maatuomari, Swedish: landsdomare).[1] Records in the FamilySearch Catalog can be identified by the term Kihlakunnanoikeus (Swedish:Förlovningsdomstol) as the author. For additional information see Swedish Domsaga.

Tips

The tuomiokunta was an appellate court to the käräjäkunta.
