The purpose of this project is to add City Directories to Connecticut town pages

New England Town Pages, Part 9

Instructions[edit | edit source]

  1. Open the task list and go to Part 9


  2. Part 9 task list.png

  3. Place your name next to the town page that you want to edit.


  4. Go to the U.S. City Directories, 1822-1995 at Ancestry.com.


  5. On this page, there is a browse this collection box. Scroll down to it and place Connecticut in the State drop down.

  7. After you select Connecticut, look for your town in the City or County drop down.


  8. Browse this collection towns.png

    If you don't see your town continue to step 6. If you see your town skip to step 7.

  9. Go back to the task list and write "Not in collection" in the Notes. Move on to the next town.


  10. Open the link to your town in the task list, and find City Directories in the table of contents.

  12. Click on the Edit Source button.


  13. Copy and paste the following code in the text box:
  14. *'''YEAR1-YEAR2''' [https://www.ancestry.com/search/collections/2469/ U.S. City Directories, 1822-1995] at [https://www.ancestry.com/search/ Ancestry] ($) - index & images, ''some years may be missing''
  15. Go back to the Ancestry.com collection, select your town in the drop down, and click on the Year drop down

  17. Find the earliest year and put that over YEAR1, then find the latest year and put that over YEAR2. For the town of Ansonia it looked like this:

  19. Click the show preview button to make sure everything looks good. It should look like this:

  21. Once you are ready to save the page, write "Adding US City Directories collection" in the summary box and then save the page.


  22. Place the date that you finished it and move on to the next town.
