FamilySearch Wiki:WikiProject Wales Infoboxes - Civil Registration
Purpose
Some countries in the Wiki have infoboxes on each of the parish pages that gives more precise jurisdictional information for each parish. We have added the infobox template to all of the parish pages in Wales so we can add that information as well. This is very helpful for the researchers, as it tells them what jurisdictional levels held their records.

Instructions
Sign up on Task List
1. Go to the Task List and put your name in the "Name" column for the respective Wiki pages you'd like to work on.
2. Click on the name of the wiki page you signed up for. The name is linked to the actual Wiki page and will take you directly to that page.
3. Click Edit source next to the "History" heading (or equivalent) on the parish page, and locate the infobox template code. It will look something like the following:
Find Civil Registration District
4. In a new tab or window, go to the Google Book Census of England and Wales 1881, and enter the name of your parish in the left search bar (as shown below). Then click "Go".
5. After you search, you may get a yellow bar that says "No results found in this book..." (as shown below).
If this is the case, refer back to the Wiki parish page to see if there is an alternate spelling of the parish name.
If you find another spelling for your parish, repeat step 4 with the new spelling.
- If your parish name is comprised of more than one word, try searching with just one word or the other. (Example: Builth Wells. Search for either Builth or Wells.) It may pull up the correct parish.
- If there are still no results for that parish, mark the Notes column of the task list with "None", and continue on to the next parish in the task list.
6. After your search, you will see a list of search results. Click on the first one in the list.
7. Click the "Next" button (circled in red) until you come to the page with an entry in Table 4 (circled in blue).
Important Notes
- Note 1: You may need to scroll to see the top of the page in order to find the Table number.
- Note 2: In the menu bar above the image viewer are two icons for zooming in and out of the image (the icons are small magnifying glasses with a + and a - inside them). Use these if the text is hard to read.
- Note 3: Make sure to check every page with the "Next" button to make sure there isn't more than one entry of a Table 4 page. If you have more than one different Table 4 page in your search results, SKIP this parish, and make note of it in the Notes column of the task list.
8. Locate the Registration District and the Registration Sub-District on the page pertaining to your parish.
Your parish name will be automatically highlighted on the Google Books page.
The Registration District examples are circled in red, and the Sub-District examples are circled in blue.
(The closest Registration District above your highlighted parish on the page is the district name you are looking for.)
9. Type the district names into the infobox for your parish back on the Wiki page. Replace the "add here" next to the Civ Reg District and Sub-district fields with the respective district names. Add "(1881)" after the district name, so we can clarify that the information was correct as of this 1881 census book.
(The image below shows the Google Book on the left, and the corresponding Wiki code on the right.)
10. Before you save, put "Added registration districts" to the Summary box. Then click "Save changes".
Abnormal Parishes
11. Occasionally when you search in the Google Book for your parish, on Table 4, it will show the parish highlighted as the Registration District (in all CAPS). In this case, the name of the parish is the name of the Registration District, and that parish will have "N/A (1881)" as the Sub-district (see example below).
(The image below shows the Google Book on the left, and the corresponding Wiki code on the right.)
12. If you encounter anything else abnormal or unexpected through this project, make a note of it in the Notes column of the task list, and Amber will check on it.
