Progress reports[edit | edit source]

Birth task: Liz is in process with the 1898-present segment. Several counties have been posted already.

From previous meetings:

    • Neighboring counties clickable maps: ongoing
    • History timelines progress (Marty not joining us today)
    • Get documentation of Delayed Birth Registration - dates started, etc. (Says 1941 on state page, but no citation.) - Pat
    • Do the county newspaper pages - Wilma

Idea share 45 minutes[edit | edit source]

If time permits after each area is covered, can revisit any of these topics.

Value and frequency of FS Catalog links 10 minutes[edit | edit source]

One of the first projects we did for Utah was add links to the FS Catalog for every county, from every topic, if entries were in the FS Catalog. (Now FSLC)

This has come into question. Some see the links as repetitious, and some say they are useless and in the way of real content. "(Look for the "Probate Records, Records of Taxation, Vital Records, etc. of Kane County, Utah are in the FamilySearch Library. Some of the books may be available in public libraries.") It seems completely hopeless... The text is not useful, the links are confusing at best."

What do we think? Do we drop the prolific links to FS Catalog or keep them? And why either way?

  • make clearer -- they will get a list, not the records
  • Some of the topics: always look in the fhlc
  • might be records for utah (state), US
  • Say what is correct. Look in the FS Catalog for more records that may lead.
  • Repetition is not necessarily bad. in fact it is good for those who may not think of it.
  • Lists books or resources they may not know about.
  • Online, originals, other, then FS Catalog (PA example)

Decision: not ready to get rid of them, getting ready to revamp them.

Church Records 20 minutes[edit | edit source]

Church Records

After trying a different county (Box Elder), another challenge appeared:
1) Several counties will have a long list of LDS Communities. There are 32 in Box Elder County. Do we want the list (in paragraph form?) anyway?
1a) If yes, we can just give them the link to Jenson's and tell them to search it. We can also ask them for help and have a link to a task for linking to the timeline shell we have created.
1b) If no, what SHALL we do? Decided to use a hide/show box for LDS Other churches are being addressed -- IF in the FS Catalog
