Purpose

Review and upload clickable maps for Latin America in the English and Spanish Wikis

Program Requirement

The program PowerPoint is used in this project to review and make necessary changes to the maps. PowerPoint needs to be installed on your computer.

Instructions

General Instructions

1. Open Task List Latin America Clickable Maps and choose bottom tab for country to work on
2. Go to Latin America PPT Clickable Maps
3. Choose the country folder you are working on
4. Open or right click on the PowerPoint map file
5. Download the maps to your computer and open in PowerPoint
6. Compare the names, spelling, and boundaries on these maps to current online maps, websites
   • A good resource is The City Population Website

   • Choose 'America' under the Index Pages column

   
   
   

   • Click on the country you are working on

   
   
   

   • Choose 'Administrative Division'

   
   
   

   • This is the country map with a list of the administrative divisions in the right column

   
   
   

   • Province and Canton Boundary

   
   
   

   • PPT province and Canton Boundary

   • Compare boundary shape, size, and location with the PowerPoint maps

   
   
   

   • A good resource for Spanish spellings is the Spanish Wikipedia.

   Example:Provincias de Ecuador

7. Make any necessary map and spelling changes on the PowerPoint maps
8. If there are too many names with arrows on a map or if the arrows detract from the map:
   

   Check for areas where the arrows can be removed

   Either change font and put name of area back on map or

9. Save each map as an individual png file in the appropriate folder on Google (see specific instructions below)

Naming and Saving Maps

1. Open and sign into the Spanish Wiki
2. Go to the country page and choose a province
3. Look for the subheading that has the municipalities listed
4. Name the file with the words that follow Plantilla:(do not use the word Plantilla in the name)






5. In this instance it will be Provincia de Azuay Mapa
6. Go back to the PowerPoint map to be saved
7. Choose 'File', 'Save As', and type in the name found on the provincia page






8. Change the PowerPoint Presentation (*.pptx) to PNG Portable Network Graphics Format (*.png)
9. Press save. The prompt will ask 'Which slide do you want to export?' choose 'Just This One'






10. Save map to "Completed Spanish Maps" folder in the Latin America PPT Clickable Maps Folder

Upload Maps Spanish Wiki
1. From any page on the Spanish Wiki
2. On the left sidebar find the Tools section. Under the Tools section find Upload file
3. Follow the instructions. In the summary section, copy/paste these phrases:

== Resumen ==
[[Categoría:Mapas de COUNTRY]] 

== Licencia ==
{{PD-author-español}}

4. Replace the word COUNTRY with the name of the current country.

• Example:

 [[Categoría:Mapas de Peru]]

5. Press 'Upload File' to save

Upload English Maps Instructions

Naming and Saving Maps

1. In PowerPoint, choose 'File', and 'Save As'
2. Name the file NAME Province Map.png
3. In this instance the name of the file will be: Azuay Province Map
4. Change the PowerPoint Presentation (*.pptx) to PNG Portable Network Graphics Format (*.png)
5. Press save. The prompt will ask if you want to save all of the slides or the current slide. Choose 'current slide'
6. Save map to "Completed English Maps" folder in the Latin America PPT Clickable Maps Folder

Upload Maps English Wiki
1. From any page on the English Wiki
2. On the left sidebar find the Tools section. Under the Tools section find Upload file
3. Follow the instructions on the upload page

4. Change

[[Category:WikiProjects]] to [[Category:COUNTRY Maps]]

5. Press 'Upload File' to save
