Task List
Step One: Open Page in Wikitext
- From the Histories and Cities Task List, select a district. This will take you to the district's table of municipalities.
- Click on the first available municipality. This will take you to the municipality's page.
- Click Edit Source
Step Two: Locate Corresponding Page in Wikipedia
- In a separate window, open Wikipedia.org
- Search for the district that contains the municipality.
- Several districts also have municipalities with the same name. If the municipality opens, the sidebar will contain a link to the district's page.
- From the list of municipalities on the district's Wikipedia page, select the correct one.
Step Three: Extract Historical Information
- From the introduction and the History section of Wikipedia, find the following type of information:
- The date the original area was founded.
- The date the municipality was created.
- What district it belonged to at different periods of time.
- Historically significant events (fires, earthquakes, battles) that may have damaged genealogical records.
- Rephrase the historical information whenever possible so we are not directly copying Wikipedia.
- Each point of information should be preceded by an asterisk (*), and be placed on a separate line.
- The last bullet point should give the population of the municipality. The basic format is already provided.
- Fill in the name of the municipality
- Fill in the population number, (usually stated in the sidebar), rounded to the hundred.
Step Four: Format Citation
There is already a template for a citation after the last bullet point.
- Copy the name of the wikipedia article into "PAGE NAME"
- Copy the wikipedia article's url into "URL"
- Write the current date in place of "DATE"
