Task List

Instructions[edit | edit source]

1. Go to the task list and sign up for a span of counties.

2. In the first county, go to Death subheading in the Vital Records heading at the bottom of the county page.
***DO NOT ADD THESE COLLECTIONS TO THE FOLLOWING COUNTIES/BOROUGHS: Bronx, Brooklyn/Kings, Staten Island/Richmond, Manhattan/New York, and Queens.

3. Most likely you will have to add a subheading just above the Death Substitutes subheading and below the Death intro template. Add the following if necessary: (Note: This is not a real heading but instead a heading in italics.)

''Death Indexes''<br>

4. Copy and paste the following databases under Death Indexes subheading. If there are already death indexes listed on the page, be sure to keep them in chronological order. However, make sure you do NOT list them under the Death Substitutes heading.

:*'''1880-1956''' - [http://search.ancestry.com/search/db.aspx?dbid=61535 New York, Death Index, 1880-1956] at [http://search.ancestry.com Ancestry] — ($), index only<br>
:*'''1957-1963''' - {{RecordSearch|2285574|New York State Health Department, Genealogical Research Death Index, 1957-1963}} at FamilySearch — Index only<br>

5. If the database is already listed on the page, take off the old version and add this version of the collection.

6. Preview the page to make sure the links work and it is formatted correctly.

7. In the Edit Summary field, enter "added death links" and save the page.

Example[edit | edit source]

Early deaths were recorded on the town level and the years vary by town. (List of towns) The New York State Department of Health (state level) began recording deaths in 1881. Deaths were not recorded on the county level.
