FamilySearch Wiki:WikiProject Fixing Old FamilySearch Books Links - dcms.lds.org Instructions
Purpose
FamilySearch Books updated their formatting, and broke all the links in the Wiki to their books online, and didn't leave redirects. We need to identify the old, broken links and replace them with the updated, current link to that book on FS Books.
Task List
Remember to use the correct instructions for your section of the Task List.

Instructions
dcms.lds.org
1. Using the respective link to this section of the Task List, add your name to the parts of the Task List you want to sign up to fix.
2. Click on the first link of the part of the Task List you've signed up for, and it'll take you to that page in the Wiki.
3. Edit source for that page, and use Ctrl + F (Command + F if on a Mac) to find "dcms.lds.org" on the page of code. This will take you directly to where that link is on the page (there may be more than one instance of "dcms.lds.org" on the page).
The code may look something like this (below) - dcms.lds.org link is bolded, and the title of the book is in italics:
Company A - Many men from Huron County Erie County
4. Look at the code around the library/books link, and you will find the title of the book. (NOTE: if the book title is not intuitive, you may have to "Show preview" for the page, and see if you can find it in the surrounding text)
5. Go to the FamilySearch Digital Library and search for the title of the book.
6. If the correct book appears in the search results, click on the link and it will take you to the online listing we have for that book.
- Note: Occasionally the title of the book listed on the Wiki page does not bring up the book entry on the FamilySearch Digital Library site. In this case, you may have to get creative by searching for a particular word or series of words instead of the whole title. If you are not able to find the book after searching for a bit, please let Amber know through a Yammer message.
7. On the left-hand side of the Digital Library page for that book, you will usually see a picture either of the cover of the book or a page of the book. Look underneath that picture, and you should see a link that says
"View All Pages ### pages".
- If you do see the "View All Pages ### pages", skip to step 13.
- If you do not see a link to view the pages of the book, and instead you see a phrase "Due to copyright restrictions, this book cannot be viewed online", continue to step 8.
8. From here, if the Digital Library doesn't have the book digitized online, we still want to provide the link to the FS Catalog entry so the users will know where it is available.
9. Go to the FamilySearch Catalog. Under the "Search by:" section, click on "Titles". Type in the name of the book into the "Title" search field, and click "Search".
- NOTE: sometimes the Catalog search is very picky... so make sure your spelling is correct in your search.
10. When you find the correct entry in the Catalog, take the Catalog URL for that book and replace the old URL in the familysearch.org/library/books.
11. Remove any mention in the book link of the images being digitized or available online. (in the example from step 4, we would remove the "Digital Images")
12. Save changes, and skip steps 13-14, and begin again at step 3.
13. Replace the entire old dcms.lds.org URL with the new, FamilySearch Digital Library URL.
- Old Code (from step 3):
Company A - Many men from Huron County Erie County
- New Code with new link:
Company A - Many men from Huron County Erie County
14. Save changes and start again at step 3 as needed for multiple instances of this template on the page.
