FamilySearch Wiki:WikiProject Fixing Old FamilySearch Books Links - FSbooks Instructions
Purpose
FamilySearch Books updated their formatting, and broke all the links in the Wiki to their books online, and didn't leave redirects. We need to identify the old, broken links and replace them with the updated, current link to that book on FS Books.

Instructions
FSbook Template
1. Using the respective link to this section of the Task List, add your name to the parts of the Task List you want to sign up to fix.
2. Click on the first link of the part of the Task List you've signed up for, and it'll take you to that page in the Wiki.
3. Edit source for that page, and use Ctrl + F (Command + F if on a Mac) to find "FSbook" on the page of code. This will take you directly to where that link is on the page (there may be more than one instance of the FSbook template on the page).
The code will look something like this (below) with various code on either side:
{{FSbook|60766}}
4. Look at the code around the FSbook template, and you will find the title of the book. (NOTE: if the book title is not intuitive, you may have to "Show preview" for the page, and see if you can find it in the surrounding text)
Example (I have bolded the FSbook template and the book title for reference):
*'''[Anderson]''' Burgess, James A. ''Anderson, Cockrill, Moffett, Smith & Allied Families of Northern Virginia''. Vol. 1. Chandler, Ariz.: J.A. Burgess, 2002. Digital version at {{FSbook|60766}} - free; {{FSC|1034338|item|disp=FS Library Fiche 6004570}}.
5. Go to the FamilySearch Digital Library and search for the title of the book.
6. If the correct book appears in the search results, click on the link and it will take you to the online listing we have for that book.
- Note: Occasionally the title of the book listed on the Wiki page does not bring up the book entry on the FamilySearch Digital Library site. In this case, you may have to get creative by searching for a particular word or series of words instead of the whole title. If you are not able to find the book after searching for a bit, please let Amber know through a Yammer message.
7. On the left-hand side of the Digital Library page for that book, you will usually see a picture either of the cover of the book or a page of the book. Look underneath that picture, and you should see a link that says
"View All Pages ### pages".
- If you do see the "View All Pages ### pages", continue to step 8.
- If you do not see a link to view the pages of the book, and instead you see a phrase "Due to copyright restrictions, this book cannot be viewed online", delete ONLY the FSbook template (from {{ to the end }}) and any words immediately associated to that template (e.g. "Digital version at..." etc.) from the Wiki page, keeping the rest of the book listing. Skip steps 8-10, and begin again at step 3.
8. Replace the entire FSbook template (from {{ to the end }}) with the following code:
[NEW URL FamilySearch Digital Library]
9.Copy and paste the new book URL from the Digital Library into the NEW URL spot in the code from step 8.
10. Save changes and repeat steps 3-10 as needed for multiple instances of this template on the page.
