Purpose

  • To create cemetery links in the Cemeteries Section for the Connecticut Town pages

Part 1

  • To add links from FindAGrave.com to the Cemeteries section of the Connecticut Town pages

Part 2

  • To add Town links from FamilySearch.org Catalog to the Cemeteries section of the Connecticut Town page

Part 3

  • To add County links from FamilySearch.org Catalog to the Cemeteries section of the Connecticut Town page

Part 4

  • To add FamilySearch Places from the County level to Connecticut Town Pages

  • Select a town from Connecticut Part 35 that you want to work on and put the date and your name by that town

Project Instructions

Part One

  • To add TOWN Cemeteries List from Find A Grave.com to the Cemeteries section of the Connecticut Town pages

Step One

  • Click on the town, from the task list you have selected, and open up the town page
  • For these instructions Bethel, Fairfield County, Connecticut images were used
  • This first image is what a Connecticut Town page looks like
  • Towards the bottom of this image is the Cemeteries section

  • Click on edit source in the Cemeteries section of the Town chosen from the Task List
  • Copy and paste these 4 lines of WikiText code to the top of the Cemeteries Section, above all other links and information
  • Do not remove any other links or information

Step Two

Go to *Find A Grave Cemeteries
  • Enter the Town and State in Cemetery Location
  • This should bring the dropdown with the Town, County, State, United States of America

  • Make sure this Place matches with what you chose on the Task List
  • Click the Search button
  • This page shows how many cemeteries are in that town and is the page we want linked to our Cemeteries section

Step Three

Creating the link

  • This is the first WikiText code in the edit source place that we will use to create the Find A Grave link

  • Copy the URL from the top of the FindAGrave Town Cemeteries page and paste it into the WikiText code
  • This is only an example do not copy:
*[https://www.findagrave.com/cemetery/search?cemetery-name=&cemetery-loc=Bethel%2C+Fairfield+County%2C+Connecticut%2C+United+States+of+America&only-with-cemeteries=cemOnly&locationId=city_22991 TOWN Cemeteries List] at FindAGrave


  • Add the TOWN name to the end of the URL and before the word Cemeteries
  • Make sure there is a space between the URL and the TOWN name
  • This is only an example do not copy:

  • It should look like this in the Show preview

  • In the Summary copy and paste
Project Added FindAGrave Cemeteries list
  • Click on Save changes
  • Then go on to the next section:
  • To add TOWN Cemeteries from the FamilySearch.org Catalog to the Cemeteries Section of the Connecticut Town page

Part Two

  • To add TOWN Cemeteries from the FamilySearch.org Catalog to the Cemeteries Section of the Connecticut Town page
  • Click on edit source in the Cemeteries section of the Town chosen from the Task List


If there are no cemetery records on the Town or County level, then do the following steps:

No Town cemetery records

  • Delete the Town WikiText code that was added in the Cemeteries edit source place
  • Then skip Town section Part 2 instructions, and go on to Part 3 *To add COUNTY County Cemeteries from the FamilySearch.org Catalog to the Cemeteries section of the Connecticut Town pages instructions

No County cemetery records

  • Delete the County WikiText code that was added in the Cemeteries edit source place
  • Then complete the Town section Part 2 instructions, skip Part 3 County section instructions, and go on to Part 4 To add FamilySearch Places from the County level to New England Town Pages instructions


  • If there are Cemeteries at the Town and County level continue through all of the instructions

Step One

  • To search for cemeteries at the Connecticut Town level, follow directions below:

  • Click on: Places within United States, Connecticut at the top of the page
  • Next click on the County you want to search

  • Then click on Places within United States, Connecticut, Fairfield County
  • This is an image for Fairfield County, Connecticut

  • Last click on the town you want to search


Step Two

  • Here is an image of the Town of Bethel, Fairfield County, Connecticut
  • It shows that there is a Cemeteries link to click on:

  • Click on the first link
  • When the link is clicked on it will next show this

  • Scroll down to Subjects
  • Choose the link for United States, Connecticut, Fairfield, Bethel - Cemeteries


  • This page shows all the records for the Town of Bethel and the Subject Number that will be used in creating the link

Step Three

Steps for creating the link

  • Copy and paste the Subject Number into the second WikiText code in the Cemeteries edit source place
  • This is only an example do not copy:

  • Copy and paste the Town into the WikiText code
  • This is only an example do not copy:

  • In Summary add:

  • Save changes


  • When finished with the Towns section go to Part 3 To add COUNTY County Cemeteries from the FamilySearch.org Catalog to the Cemeteries section of the Connecticut Town pages


Part Three

  • To add COUNTY County Cemeteries from the FamilySearch.org Catalog to the Cemeteries section of the Connecticut Town pages
  • Click on edit source in the Cemeteries section of the Town chosen from the Task List


Step One


  • Click on: Places within United States, Connecticut at the top of the page
  • Next click on the County that matches the Town that was chosen on the Task List
  • For this example Fairfield County, Connecticut was chosen

  • If there are cemetery records on the County level click into the first cemetery record from the Cemeteries section

  • This image is of the page for Fairfield County, Connecticut
  • Scroll down to Subjects, Locality Subjects

  • Click on United States, Connecticut, Fairfield - Cemeteries
  • This page will show all of the cemetery records belonging to that particular County
  • Copy the Subject Number from the side of the page and paste into the the third link Subject Number section

Part Four

  • To add FamilySearch Places from the County level to New England Town Pages

Step One

  • Go to the Cemeteries section, and click on Edit Source of the Town page
  • We will now fill in the link information for the fourth link FamilySearch Places

Step Two

  • Right click on the link below and if you want, choose the "Open link in incognito window"

  • Select the top search result
  • The County chosen is Fairfield County, Connecticut


  • Click the blue target-shaped icon next to county name

  • Click the link that says "add filter"

  • Type cemetery into the "place type" search box and select cemetery, then select close

This will get you back to the list of all of the cemeteries in the county

  • Copy the URL in the search results

Step Three


Steps for creating the link

  • Copy the "URL" and paste it into the URL section in the FamilySearch Places link
  • Copy and paste the name of the County into "COUNTY" section in the FamilySearch Places link


  • Make sure that there is a space between the URL and the name of the COUNTY
  • Here is and example of what the link would look like
  • Please do not copy

Step Four

  • Add to Summary and save changes

  • All steps are now finished for the Town and County that was chosen from the Task List
  • Move on to the next Town and County on the Task List and start over at the top of the instructions with Part One Find A Grave
