FamilySearch Wiki:Wales Infoboxes Part 1.2 - Civil Registration

Purpose

Some countries in the Wiki have infoboxes on each of the parish pages that gives more precise jurisdictional information for each parish. We have added the infobox template to all of the parish pages in Wales so we can add that information as well. This is very helpful for the researchers, as it tells them what jurisdictional levels held their records.

Instructions

Sign up on Task List

1. Go to the Task List and put your name in the "Name" column for the respective Wiki pages you'd like to work on.

2. Click on the name of the wiki page you signed up for. The name is linked to the actual Wiki page and will take you directly to that page.

Find Civil Registration

3. Look in the History heading of your parish page, and see if there is a link to the Genuki page for that parish. (example below)

4. If there was no Genuki link on your parish page, locate the county your parish resides in, and click the link below to a list of Genuki parish pages for that county.

5. After you arrive at the respective Genuki page for your parish, scroll down on the Genuki page until you find a Civil Registration heading.

6. Read through the Civil Registration section of the Genuki page to see if you can find the following information:

  • Civil Registration District
  • Sub-district
  • Poor Law Union

7. If none of the above information is on your Genuki page, put "None" in the Notes section of the Task list, and continue on to the next parish.

  • If only one or two pieces of information is listed on Genuki, add a note in the Notes column of the task list describing what you weren't able to find from Genuki.

8. Back on the Wiki parish page, click Edit source next to the "History" heading (or equivalent) on the parish page, and locate the infobox template code. It will look something like the following:

9. Add the information you found on the Genuki page into the appropriate spots in the Infobox code (as highlighted below).

  • If there is already a Civil Registration district in the infobox and the district you found in this project is different, add a semicolon ";" after the pre-existing Civ Reg district, and then add the new district name after it.

10. Type "added districts to infobox" in the Summary box, and then Save the page.
