County Information

Description

Escambia County was created on 10 December 1868 and may have been named for the Creek name Shambia, meaning "clearwater", or the Choctaw word for "cane-brake" or "reed-brake".[2] Its county seat is Brewton.[3] It is located in the southwestern area of the state.
