The Dominican Republic is an island country in the Caribbean whose nearest neighbors are Haiti, Cuba, Turks and Caicos Islands, Jamaica, and Puerto Rico. It was formerly a colony of France, Spain, and Haiti. The official language is Spanish.[1]
