History

While the municipality of Contà is recent (established January 1, 2016), the territory has ancient origins, dating back to the Middle Ages (12th century).

Jurisdictions:

  • 12th-13th Centuries: Under the control of the Counts of Flavon.
  • Late 13th Century: Passed to the Counts of Tyrol. Contà became a Tyrolean enclave within the Principality of Trento.
  • 1334: Jurisdiction passed to Volcmaro of Burgstall, founder of the Spaur family.
  • 14th-19th Centuries: Under the control of the Spaur family. The three communities (Flavon, Cunevo, Terres) had some autonomy with their own institutions and elected rulers, but no written charter.
  • 19th Century (post-Napoleonic Wars): The three villages became distinct, autonomous municipalities.
  • 1928: Cunevo, Flavon, and Terres were merged into a single municipality.
  • Post-War: The three villages regained their municipal autonomy.
  • January 1, 2016: The three municipalities merged to form the current Municipality of Contà.

Major events:

  • 12th Century: Territory granted to the Counts of Flavon.
  • Late 13th Century: Counts of Tyrol gained control.
  • 1334: Jurisdiction passed to the Spaur family.
  • 17th Century: Spaur family abandoned the old castle of Flavon and built palaces in Flavon and Terres.
  • 19th Century (post-Napoleonic Wars): Abolition of seigneurial jurisdictions and establishment of the three villages as independent municipalities.
  • 1928: Merger of the three villages into one municipality.
  • Post-War: Restoration of the three villages' autonomy.
  • January 1, 2016: Establishment of the Municipality of Contà.[1]
