History

While the area (Debbia) was known in the Middle Ages, and a xenodochium (a type of hostel) existed in the 13th century, the first house in Chiesina was built in 1613. However, the town's development was significantly boosted in 1780 by land reclamation efforts. The municipality was established much later, in 1963.

Jurisdictions:

  • Medieval period: Area known as Debbia, near the "lake of Valdinievole".
  • 1514: Construction of a small church (the "chiesina").
  • 1575: Church becomes a parish, with territory taken from Uzzano, Montecarlo, and Pescia.
  • Divided between the municipalities of Pescia and Uzzano (after 1780 reclamation).
  • 1893: Area belonging to Pescia transferred to Uzzano.
  • January 23, 1963: Became an autonomous municipality.
