History

While some findings suggest possible human settlements as early as the 1st century BC, definite information about the inhabited place of Casalbuttano comes from the 11th and 12th centuries.

Jurisdictions:

  • During the Spanish domination in 1627, the town was assigned as a fief to the Schinchinelli family.
  • From the century following until the end of the 19th century, the Jacini and Turina families rose in prominence.
  • In 1867, the autonomous municipalities of San Vito and Polengo were abolished and aggregated to Casalbuttano, and the municipality took the name Casalbuttano ed Uniti.

Major events:

  • A castle was built in the town in the 11th or 12th century, which was demolished in the 18th century.
  • The town was set on fire in 1212 during a battle between the troops of Milan and Cremona.
  • In the mid-19th century, Casalbuttano was a significant center for silk processing, with four steam spinning mills active.[1]
