County Information

Description

Carroll County was created 19 Jan 1836[2] and was named for Charles Carroll of Carrollton (1737–1832), signer of the American Declaration of Independence. Its county seat is Westminster. It is located in the north-central area of the state.[3]

  • 1837--Carroll County was created 19 January 1837 from Baltimore and Frederick counties by taking the following hundreds from Baltimore County: North Hundred, Pipe Creek Hundred, Delaware Upper Hundred, Delaware Lower Hundred and from Frederick County: Pipe Creek Hundred, Westminster Hundred, Unity Hundred, Burnt House Hundred, Piney Creek Hundred, and Taneytown Hundred.
