History

Burkal Kirke (parish) is dated from 1025 and is located in South Jutland, Denmark. The history of the church can be traced back to around 1225. The outside of the church is white with a black roof and has stone faces carved on each corner of the foundation. The interior contains a Romanesque apse, choir and Nave with an additional extension dated 1637. The building material is mostly monastic boulders. In the Nave the ceiling displays remarkable paintings dated to 1622, although for a period is was covered over. In 1943 it was restored to what it looked like in 1622. The pulpit is renaissance work Toender-type from ca. 1610.

Located next to the church is the cemetery. It is fenced and is kept in immaculate condition.

The parish is located in the municipality of Aabenraa (Region of Southern Denmark). Until the Municipal Reform in 2007, it was in the Tinglev Municipality.

Address is: Burkal Kirkevej 2, 6372 Bylderup-Bov, Denmark Website: https://sogn.dk/burkal/
