Brief History
The 194th Regiment, New York Infantry was organized at Elmira, N.Y., and mustered in Companies "A" and "B" March 29, Company "C" April 7, "D" April 16, "E" April 22, "F" April 26, "G" at Hart's Island, N.Y., April 27, 1865. They mustered out May 3 to 10, 1865.[1]

Company A - recruited principally at Horseheads, Elmira, Southport, Chemung, Big Flats, and Veteran, all of Chemung County, and Baldwin, Nassau County and Orange County.
Company B - recruited principally at Southport, Elmira and Horsehead of Chemung County, Tioga County, Candor, Tioga County, Triangle and Maine of Broome County, Dix and Reading of Schuyler County.
Company C - recruited principally at Holland, Erie County, Baldwin, Nassau County, Elmira, Chemung County, Hume and New Hudson, Allegany County, Catlin and Veteran, Chemung County, Rochester, Monroe County and Canandaigua, Ontario County.
Company D, Ninth Independent Company - recruited principally at Victor, Ontario County. Milo, Jerusalem, Benton, Potter, Italy and Barrington of Yates County. Naples,Ontario County and Seneca County
Company E - recruited principally at Jerusalem, Elmira, Caneadea, Angelica of Allegany County, Potter, Yates County, Southport, Chemung County and Rochester of Monroe County.
Company F, Twenty-first Independent Company - recruited principally at Ischua, Leon, Mansfield, Westfield, Randolph, Ellicottsville, Persia all of Cattaraugus County, Cold Spring, Putnam County and Allegany County.
Company G, Forty-ninth Independent Company - recruited principally at Lockport, Niagara County and Buffalo, Erie County.
Company H, Twelfth Independent Company - recruited principally in part, at Syracuse and Van Buren of Onondaga County, Rochester, Monroe County. Virgil, Cortland County, Marion, Walworth and Macedon of Wayne County. Conquest, Auburn and Niles of Cayuga County. Palmyra, Wayne County.
Company I, Seventeenth Independent Company - recruited principally in part, at Rochester, Irondequoit, Mendon and Greece of Monroe County. Buffalo, Erie County. Auburn and Niles, Cayuga County. Elmira, Chemung County. Canandaigua, Ontario County. Clay, Onondaga County, Mendon, Monroe County.
