160th Regiment, New York Infantry


Brief History

The 160th regiment was organized at Auburn, Cayuga County under Colonel Charles C. Dwight, Lieutenant Colonel John Van Petten and Major William Sentell and mustered in November 21, 1862. Moved to Savannah, Georgia, and attached to 3rd Brigade, Dwight's Division, Department of the South, June 30-July 7, 1865. They were mustered out November 1, 1865 under Colonel Henry P. Underhill, Lt. Colonel Burrud and Major Vaughan.[1][2][3]

Company F - principally recruited from Auburn, Moravia, Locke, Summer Hill, Sempronius, Sennett, Owasco, Victory, Sterling and Venice, all in Cayuga County

Company G - principally recruited from Attica, Wyoming County; Alfred, Almond, Andover and Wellsville, all in Allegany County

Company H - principally recruited from Independence, West Almond, Alma, Wellsville, Scio, and Wirt, all in Allegany County; and Auburn, Cayuga County

Company I - principally recruited from Independence, Rushford, Caneadea, Allen, Andover, Belfast and Wellsville, all in Allegany County; Owasco and Auburn in Cayuga County; and Palmyra, Wayne County

Company K - principally recruited from Eden, Hamburg, Marilla, Collins, and Buffalo, all in Erie County; and Persia, Cattaraugus County
