151st Regiment, New York Infantry

Brief History

The 151st regiment was organized at Lockport, Niagara County and mustered in under Colonel William Emerson, Lieutenant Colonel Erwin Bowen and Major Thomas Fay on October 22, 1862.
They were mustered out at Washington, D. C., June 26, 1865 under Lt. Colonel Bogardus.[1][2][3]

For more information on the history of this unit, see:

Companies in this Regiment with the Counties of Origin

Men often enlisted in a company recruited in the counties where they lived, though not always. After many battles, companies might be combined because so many men were killed or wounded. If you are unsure which company your ancestor was in, try the company recruited in his county first.

Company A - principally recruited from Independent Rifles — at Medina, Orleans County

Company B - principally recruited from Niagara Falls, Niagara County

Company C - principally recruited from Batavia, Genesee County

Company D - principally recruited from Albion, Orleans County

Company K - principally recruited from Somerset, Newfane, Lockport, and Olcott, each in Niagara County; and Buffalo, Eden, and North Collins, each in Erie County
