Brief History

After the 12th Regiment, Indiana Infantry (1 year) was mustered out on May 14, 1862, the unit was reorganized for 3 years' service at Indianapolis, Indiana, May 27 to August 27, 1862 and was mustered in August 17, 1862. The veterans and recruits transferred to the 48th and 59th Indiana Infantry.
